Busting Top 5 Excuses Not to do a Boudoir Shoot

Hey ladies! If you are reading this, I assume you are considering having your own boudoir experience. Most people that consider this will have a list of excuses of why they shouldn’t do it longer than their list of reasons why they should. This post is meant to help you overcome that long list of excuses and help prepare you for the amazing boudoir experience that you absolutely deserve.

Reason #1: “I want to lose weight first,”

Sure, shedding a few pounds before a camera is all up in yourface is always ideal. We all talk about getting our “summer body,” ready each year. But how many times do you feel like you ACTUALLY met that goal? Me personally, maybe once. Before my wedding, I think… I talk about getting fit each year, set goals, start a workout & nutrition plan, and after about a week or so I fall off the wagon. I re-start this probably once every month or two. Can anyone else relate?

Losing weight is NOT necessary before a boudoir shoot. I repeat: losing weight is not necessary before a boudoir shoot! Why, you may ask, would I dare say such a thing? Because I shoot for women just the way they are. My goal is to help people realize how beautiful and sexy they are ALL the time, not just when they are, “fit.” Instead of dreading the fact that you have not lost weight or toned up, I think it is better to appreciate the body you have now. Over the years, our bodies change drastically. Whether that be due to having children, health conditions, or just getting older. There is no better time than now. Would you rather have documented this joyous time of your life now, as is, rather than look down the line 10-20 years from now and wish you did it back then when you were considering it? The fact is, our bodies do change whether we like it or not. That is why there is no need to fuss over changing it now, because it will eventually change.

Reason #2: “I am not sure how to be sexy.”

Alright y’all, this one I can resonate with HARD. If you have met me, you will know that I am one awkward duck. I don’t always feel comfortable in social settings, because I think people are judging the way I look, the way I sound, the person I am. Once a camera lens in in front of my face, I panic. “What do I do with my hands?!” is my first thought. Yes, I am a photographer, don’t judge me! I can be nervous, too. I have trained myself to coach my clients, but I have NOT trained myself to coach myself. I cannot see the way I look, I do not spend much time in front of mirrors to know what my body looks like all of the time. Most people don’t! That is why I have spent hours upon hours of my time learning posing techniques. I can pose my clients in the most flattering angles, in the most flattering light, with the most flattering outfits. It is my JOB you guys. I want you to trust that I can help you look your best self in your boudoir images. I would not ask you to pay me as a professional photographer unless I felt 100% confident that I can make you look amazing.

Reason#3: “I don’t have any lingerie outfits.”

Some of my favorite shoots ever were of clients with non-conventional boudoir outfits. Button up shirts, sheer robes, sheets, body jewelry… the options are endless. My point is, every one of us has a bra and panty that likely pairs together, and if not, is at least the same color. Most of us have oversized sweaters. An easy pickup is a cheap $2 button up shirt from the Goodwill. Still not sold? I have a client closet available for ALL of my boudie babes to look through. Whether you’re a size 4XL or XS, I have your size available in at least one piece.

Boudoir isn’t just about lingerie or being sexy. It is about accepting your body the way it is and accentuating it in the most flattering way. All of my boudoir clients have the option to receive wardrobe consultations prior to the shoot to ensure you will look your best.

Reason #4: “Not sure if I will feel beautiful.”

This reason is so relatable, not only to me, but probably to about 85% of women in the world today. The society standards set in America today are so incredibly off beat of what actual women look like. You absolutely do NOT have to fit into a set of standards set by white males over the age of 45 to be beautiful. That is reality though, isn’t it? Being a size 0 is much rarer than being a size 12. Every body shape is beautiful. My job is to show you how beautiful you are. Let me show you how you look through my lens.

Reason #5: “Nervous about investment.”

Women are used to taking care of everyone around them. Everyone BUT themselves. It is so hard to spend a big chunk of money on oneself and not feel guilty about it. It is hard not to think, “I could have put that toward home improvements, or toward some debt,” and I feel this so much. Most times I want to buy something for myself, I talk myself out of it. I will go to Ross (yes, Ross, because if I do end up buying something I will feel less bad about it because it was $10 instead of $30…), fill my cart up with goodies, walk around for 45 minutes, look at my cart, and slowly empty it until there is a big space in there so that I can see the bottom of the cart again. I will tell myself I do not deserve these things, I do not deserve to fill my home or my closet with pretty things that I like. It is true that women take care of their families and loved ones, and often forget to take care of themselves. Time will pass by quickly, and boudoir is an opportunity to document your life in the moment you are in. It is a lot of commitment to give someone a chunk of money and just trust them to give you wonderful images you can cherish and look back on for a lifetime. This is why I have payment plans to help anyone from any walk of life have access to the boudoir shoot they have dreamed of. I create custom payment plans for everyone to fit into any lifestyle.

That is all I have for now! The top 5 excuses that stops people from booking their dream boudoir shoot debunked. I hope that this has helped you make the best decision you can make during any time of your life.
